Volume 76: Put It In The Room, It Will Drown.

Well hi.

This week was the fastest one up to date I would have to say. I don't even know what happened, wait, ya I do cause it wasn't much variety.

STORY TIME:

Every Tuesday we go over to one of the few members homes to help with her recycling, or garbage. All we have to do is take it from her house, and put it in the appropriate bin. Sometimes we also bring up whatever she has bought from the grocery store in her vehicle, up to her apartment. Usually it's all food, sometimes it's clothing for her 5 year old daughter as well. So as per usual, we went on Tuesday. Now for more background, her home has never been the most clean thing I've seen. Usually we never enter, so we can't see it all; but we can sure smell it all. This time, she wasn't feeling to well, so she had to stay in her bed. This meant we had to enter the home. I knew it was messy, but I wasn't prepared. Since I can only use words, just imagine someone throwing a "FLDSMDFR" or a "Flint Lockwood Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator" in each of her cabinets, fridge, freezer, oven, and surrounding rooms. Plus, imagine it all moldy/overdue. See what I mean? We knew we had to do something, she couldn't even get out of bed, she wasn't doing to hot. It was a blessing to have gotten there at the time we did. So my companion and I talked, and we decided to dive in. As we started, we knew we needed backup, so who do you call? Victorian, and Rita, the 80 year olds, our sidekicks. It was so overwhelming I didn't know what to do. But after 5 hours, we didn't even make a dent. It still looked the same. We discovered thing, after thing, after rat. Oh ya, there is a RAT (of course there is). I'm gonna save y'all by not saying everything else we found, but I think the "FLDSMDFR" is a great description word. At the end of the first day, we wanted to try and do something about that rat, so we looked around but found nothing. So here comes Victorian "the idea man", and said, "Let's open this moldy jar of soup and just stick it in the middle of the room, the rat will smell it, jump in to eat it, then he will drown. Now isn't that a good idea?" I thought he was joking, but he wasn't. So that's what he did, until we could get real traps. We returned the next morning. Fail. Then we put real traps in, and still as of now, nothing. We think the smell of the room is so bad the rat can't smell the bait... awesome. So we have to clean that room which is full of crap, before we can catch it.

IN CONCLUSION:

We have...

-Done 5 shifts at the house (still counting)

-Used over 35 big black garbage bags (so far)

-Found a rat

-Helped a member in need

WHAT I HAVE SO FAR LEARNED:

The support of the members (or even the people in our lives) is so important. When we see someone we know and love in need of help, we go and serve. As you know this branch is 65+ only kind of thing. Even as missionnaires, we are still apart of the branch or ward we serve in. Like it says in the scriptures, when we serve others, we serve God. After 5 times so far, I've seen a change in not only the house; but in the member. Before she has been a little more less active, but now we have seen her come to church 3 times in row. As we continue to help her, I know it will improve her health, and the ability to feel the spirit. Isn't that's what homes are for? Homes are a safehaven, not a place of anxiety (that's all the feelings I had as we began). Service is so important in this world, I love it! Even though it had been taking lots of time to do, I know we are being blessed. We felt like it was important, so we did as we have been taught, and followed the spirit. Since then, we have seen many miracles along the way.

So there you have it! I hope you all loved Easter! I gave a talk at church, AND sang... what is happening to me.

Salut!
