Volume 60: What's Covid?

...get ready for a day by day update from me, Elder May. Basically, I got COVID, at the beginning of the week, we had Christmas, then we got transfer news. So let's just say this is one for the books.

Monday, December 20:

Today we went to the Branch Presidents home so that we could have a FUN pDay and play Settlers of Catan which is one of my favorite games. So of course we said yes. We had a great time, and played some fun games! So over all it was a great time. Then we went home and finished out our pDay by calling our families. How wholesome!

Tuesday, December 21:

Woke up to a text saying that one of the people that played Catan with us got tested positive for Covid. And that's where it started. So the rule is that if we don't have symptoms we don't have to do anything but we do have to take a test. So we started to look online. We found out very fast that every single place is booked up until January 15th... what a great day. We did end up finding something which was just a free walk-in with no appointment needed. The only thing was that we needed to get there early the next day. Luckily we had zone conference the next day in Quebec city and that's where the test was. So our plan was to wake up at 4:30am and get there in time so that we could be ok for Zone Conference!

Wednesday, December 22:

We woke up super early and went all the way to Quebec city so that we could get a test and then have a great Zone Conference, we got there at 7:30am and we were ready to pull in and get our test, when we pulled up we talked to a man and he said it was FULL... at 7:30am. So we woke up for nothing and didn't get a test. Luckily we had no symptoms so we were still good to go to Zone Conference and all was well. Then we went back home and tried to find another day to get a test... zero luck. So we decided to buy the "do it yourself test at home" online. But that won't come until next week. Luckily we had zero symptoms still. We taught a few lessons and all was well. Oh ya then we went caroling to some friends and that was super duper fun. We all felt great.

Thursday, December 23:

I showed symptoms, hahaha, so that kind of stumped us a lot. So we had to contact all the people who we saw, and that was a long list. Once we did that, we had to stay inside so we couldn't really do anything, other then look for a test so that we can know for sure if it's possible or negative. Sucky thing was that this is the first time I have been sick on my mission... so the odds were not great. We looked for so long, and we were loosing hope. We definitely prayers so hard to be able to find one and have it be negative to that we could all enjoy Christmas with the people who invited us. Luckily we ended up finding a clinic that gave free boxes of 5 in Drummondville which is 40 minutes away. So we booked that so fast and were very greatful.

Friday, December 24:

Christmas Eve, we went to Drummondville first thing to see if we could get the results in time for the activities planned. We got the box and we almost didn't cause Im not a permanent residence in Quebec or something but I was like please and they gave it to us. So that was definitely a blessing to. Then we got McDonald's cause we're starving, and decided to take the tests as fast as possible, so we did it the parking lot at McDonald's. Never thought I would take a Covid test in the car. Also as we were ordering McDonalds, AGAIN I started ordering my 10 piece chicken nuggets in French and the lady could not hear me at all and decided to put down a happy meal with chicken nuggets. Those words are not even close. I said no that's not it, so she got someone who spoke English. I still continued speaking French and the new lady was like "oh you speak french" I'm like yep. I have been the whole time. Then the second lady STILL couldn't get my order. So they asked another man to come and do it. In the end, he told us to pull up to the next window and juts order face to face. I was very shocked and it just added to the day. Like it was funny of course but like, bruh. So after did the chemistry experiment in the car, we found out I had Covid and my companions didn't which is #awkward. So at this point all the plans we had were scrapped. Luckily no one else we talked to got COVID.

Saturday, December 25:

Christmas! So we just played this really fun game called Skull King the whole day, then I called my family. Yeah. Also, a member came and sand us a Christmas Carol which was super nice.

Sunday, December 26:

Church over zoom! Still sick, no one else showed anything so we were chilling. Ended up doing social media for like ever, and talked to so many people. Great day. That night we got TRANSFER news which was suprise. So basically I'm moving to Alma (look it up)... now this is not something normal. It's actually the farthest place north that missionnaires can go in Quebec... I am over 5 hours away from Montréal and 2 1/2 hors from Quebec city. I'm terrified. It's basically isolation up there, with a total number of 5 active members. Aye aye aye. This is gonna be an adventure, oh ya and it's even colder up there. Alsoooo the French is different so ahhhh, apparently the more north you get the thicker and more different the accent is. I don't want to leave Victo, and I don't know how I will cause we are in quarentine still until Wednesday next week lol and transfers are suppose to be in 3 days... tell me how that works. Updates to follow.

Monday, December 27:

I'm feeling better... my companion is showing symptoms. Still playing games. Whooho.

Now here is a section of all the things that members told me to do to get better at home (very natural).

-put an onion in your socks and go to bed

-swish this oil in your mouth for 20 min

-salt bath

-boil water and breath this oil

-apple cider vinegar

-bitter tea

-oils in armpits

-eat raw garlic

I think I did one. That's all.

Hope y'all had a great Christmas and stay tuned cause this week will be even better.
