Volume 24: Our Best Friend Karen
Salut, quoi de neuf mes peeps?
Another great week here in Sherbrooke! It really is awesome, and I'm glad to be here! Granby was definitely great, and I miss it; but I'm very grateful that there is more to do on pdays than just Walmart and Staples... I mean, those two places were fun but, ya.
So basically when I got here, one of the first things I was told by my new comp was that there was a lady that lived next door who HATES us. Me being curious asked why, and found out that apparently we make very loud noises, that shake her apartment... sounded pretty extensive to be but I guess I don't live in her apartment so I don't know. But honestly I believe shes doing it out of spite, just because she doesnt like us that much. Everytime we try to exercise, there she is banging on the wall for us to stop. It's quite funny tho, and really temping to just hit back because there's no way it's rattling her whole apartment. Also our music is always so low, I can barely hear it... so not sure what's up. Also we have been playing pong with juice or whatever we have for fun in our after 9 time (when the day of work is over), and we have done it many times in the past, and had no problems. Well let me tell you, the last time we did it I guess it was as if her apartment was being knocked down. She hit the wall pretty hard, and we were like bruh... why now? So we decided to move it to another room so she wouldn't break down the wall. My companion did suggest we give her some ear plugs, just so she doesn't have to suffer. Maybe we will do that sometime. That will either help a lot, or make things much worse. But I'm willing to try anything at this point. The great thing about it, is that we don't even know her real name. We actually have 3 names for her, and we don't know what one is the real one. So as a result, we just call her Karen, because we both think it suits her very well. Litterly one time we were going in the elevator, and she opened her door to come down as well. When she saw us, she looked at us, then quickly closed the door so she didn't have to be in the same room as us. Quite comical. Anyways, enough about Karen, and this becoming a new podcast episode.
This week was great, minus the fact that a lot of lessons fell through. Still more than Granby lol, so it's a plus for me. There are not a lot of people here progressing as far as for baptism goes, so we basically just teach all the members, and get them involved with the work. We have been kicking them in the butt. It's awesome because they are the best, and are willing to do anything! They also love to feed us, so basically I haven't had to cook a supper since I've been here, so that's nice. Also, I've upgraded to being able to understand the conversations that go on. Now I just need to know what to say so I can be a contributing part of society. My favorite member lesson happened this week as well! It was with a big family, so we expected it to take a little while to get things going... well we were right. It took 30 min (the whole time for the lesson) to get things going because they were laughing the whole time, not even kidding. Most of the time I had no idea why they were laughing, but it was awesome since I haven't had many lessons with families aka Granby. In the end we were able to get our message in of faith to them, so all was well. So it was definitely my favorite lesson. In conclusion, French is still hard and frustrating (but getting better), and the members are amazing.
Yesterday I was studying about power. Specifically, why it sometimes feels as if Satan has more power over us than God. In the end, I came to the conclusion that Satan being more powerful than God is an optical illusion. Satan has no more power over us, then we choose to give him. God will be able to cast out Satan and his evil in an instant. We just have to always strive to have the spirit with us so that we can have the power of God on our side. It then brought me to a scripture in Revelation 13:7, where it talks about how Satan will make war with the saints (us). This has made me think about how Satan will always try and make us think he is all powerful, when really he isn't. This is why it's important it is to remember that if we continue to have God on our side, Satan will not be able to trick us with his games.
Here is the verse:
"And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations."
I hope you all have a great week, and continue to enjoy the warm weather!
Avec amour,
Elder May
