Volume 23: Pomme Peurride

Allô, quoi de neuf?

I hope the annual spring storm has passed, and that you now have pure sunshine! It feels like it's going to be winter again here, kinda sucks, but apparently it's gonna be like 20 on Friday! Hopefully that will actually happen.

My first week in Sherbrooke wasn't all that bad. It's definitely weird just living somewhere else... but it's all good now, and I've even learned a few things already. Mostly that there are a lot of different things in this city I now call home. There is actually stuff to do, things to see, things to eat, and best of all it's the most Québecois area of the mission. So basically I thought I was doing pretty good in Granby, but sometimes I feel like I'm back to square one, but I guess it just be like that sometimes. Luckily, the members here are used to newer missionaries so they understand. Also the members here are so great! Can't wait until I can fully understand them. A lot members also means a lot of member lessons, and since we are not teaching very many people; it means even more member lessons. But it's great to get to know everyone the best I can. Let me tell you, I'm definitely learning all the different terms and slang that they use so I'm not completely left in the dark. We have a few members that help us in language study, and it's been good. One of them likes to call us... a lot. I guess enough times that the Mission President knows who this man is. He would definitely live with us if he had any chance. Luckily, we made it quite clear that wasn't allowed, nor did we want to have that happen. Besides all that he's the best, and helps us so much. My new companion is great, he is almost complete his mission so he quite enjoys talking about home... but it's fine, I find it quite funny. He knows all around Sherbrooke, so we are about to have a good PDay. He said that if we wanted to do a lot of stuff today, we would have to complete everything in the morning like "the last lap on Mario cart." I wasn't sure what to expect other than fast, and I wasn't far off at all. I hadn't seen anyone jump out of bed that fast ever. I knew that ment something good was coming today. In conclusion everything isn't as bad as I thought.

Quick story, so member lessons are great and its fun to get to know people. But there was this one person that I was warned about. Nothing bad, just the fact that no one can ever understand him, and he likes to talk. So I knew this was gonna be a treat. My companion litterly just told me to try and understand the best I can, so that's what I tried to do. So basically, the man talked for an hour about his personal life, and used a bunch of Québécois slang that both my companion and I were very confused about. In the end, I only understood about 15% of it, and the only word I remember him saying was "pomme" which is apple. So that got me really confused. It was only until after the lessons when I found out that he was saying "pomme peurride" which basically means "bad apple." Which I guess for us means someone who isn't good, y'all can probably think of some other words to. After I learned that one, I was able to connect the dots more.

General Conference was so great, and there are many things I loved about it! One of my favorite talks was from President Nelson. He discussed the importance of faith, and how we can increase our own. He gave 5 different things we can do, and my favourite one was "we hear Jesus Christ better when we are still." I love this because it's so true! The spirit speaks in a still small voice, so we can't hear the voice of the Lord as efficiently when there are distractions all around us. When we are still, we can truly feel the spirit speak to us, and guide us throughout our day. The best way I've been able to do this, is to pause after my prayers, and wait for the spirit to guide me. It's blessed my life so much, and I invite all y'all to try it! I know that was we continue to be still, we will be able to have guided lives for the better!

Continue to be awesome people! Love you all, and thanks for all you do!

Avec amour,

Elder May
