Volume 19: Cigarettes, On Cigarettes
Allo tout le monde, comment ça va? I hope y'all had a great week! Mine was definitely one of the better ones, which is something nice to have once in a while. It actually went by pretty fast, which makes it that much better. Now, I got a good story (well I think it's good at least) coming up so get ready for this one.
So on Saturday we had our last part of exchanges, and we had a lot of lessons planned which was completely terrifying. To make things even better, they were all with people I didn't know because when you have exchanges, you teach the people in your district leaders area. So I was basically going in blind. There were a few lessons with family's (which were less stressful), and one with this guy. I am now gonna tell you about this guy. So with this guy I was told two things: 1. That apparently no one could understand him, and 2. He talked with his forehead so close to the camera, that was all you would be able to see. Maybe his nostrils and eyes here and there. This was not a good first impression, but it was gonna happen anyways so I prepared myself. When we called him, we actually woke him up (good start), then he began to speak words I couldn't understand (prophecy 1 fulfilled), then as he spoke his camera went from his whole face, to his nose, to his eyes, then to his forehead (prophecy 2 fulfilled). Not the best start at all, and to make things better; as I looked closer at his eyes (when he flashed them), I could only help but notice that he was higher than Mount Everest. At that point, I knew we were in for a party. Just when I thought that was it, he decided to light a few cigs, as we were teaching him the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I mean if it helps him focus, by all means. Me not being very experienced, ended up freezing up because 1. I had no idea what was happening, and 2. There were many items hanging around the house (we basically got a tour), that I didn't want identify (I eventually did figure out what they were). But it was definitely distracting lol. I will tell you now, it was nothing bad, I saw a lot of star wars posters, and stuffed animals hanging on the roof. Just weird stuff, you just had to be there. I could only imagine if we were to have that appointment inside his house... but hey, I did say the opening prayer, so in conclusion, it was a success.
On a happier note, our friend Sylvia is getting baptized this Sunday! We have been working with her for a long time, and she has come so far! Thank you everyone for your prayers! We have seen a huge difference in her, and in Granby because of it. Granby hasn't has a baptism like this in many many years, so this is a big deal. With the baptism, there's a lot of stuff that has to go into it (planning wise) and with covid, we have to make sure we are following all the rules. As missionaries, we do all the planning, so that's what most of our week has been. Now it's the homestretch, and it's gonna be so good.
On another happy note, the restrictions are getting better here, so next week everyone (who wants to) can come to church, and we can now hold both meetings! Super exciting for us! We also will probably be able to have our next zone conference in person! This is a huge blessing (as long as the numbers don't just sky rocket...)
Finally, a little update on the mission as a whole. We were informed this week that all the athlantic province missionaries are being taken out and put in the Québec, and Ottawa areas. This is because the rules over there are much stricter than here, and they are just so far away. So the mission president has decided to close it temporary, eventually it will be back into play. Now this means that his transfer is gonna be soooo crazy. We find out this week and I now have transfer anxiety again. It's real. It's also high because we are 99% Elder Forsyth is leaving and I'm staying. So that means a new comp. It's very terrifying cause I don't know what to expect, and there are a lot of other things... it's fine it will all work out.
Finally, I would like to share this quote I love (shoutout Ally)!
"What if everything turns out for the best?"
I hope that quote helps y'all as much as it did to me! Have a marvelous week!
