Volume 16: Jamaican Bobsled Team

Salut tout le monde, comment ça va?

I hope everyone had a great Valentine's Day! I've learned that holidays don't really mean much on the mission. I definitely forgot Valentine's Day was even a thing...c'est la vie I guess. But I was able to celebrate by drinking my favorite drink. Diet coke with lemon, and French vanilla flavoring. It's quite refreshing. Shoutout to the Rushtons back home, they got me hooked!

It was a pretty good week, actually it was quite busy for once. Busy enough that I was falling asleep as 9 pm approached. No complaints other than it was in the middle of a lesson... just kidding that never happened. Anyways it definitely made for a good night sleep afterwords. There were two lessons in particular that stood out to me this week. The first one was with a lady who had been taught over a year ago, then with time got out of contact with the missionaries. Luckily a member has keep in touch with her this whole time, and we have now started talking to her again. She is of a different faith, (which isn't a problem) but brought a lot of questions. After the first discussion with her, she stressed that she wanted to bring a friend to the next lesson. When Elder Forsyth and I heard this, we got quite nervous, because we thought her friend was going to be a priest of her faith or something; which could ultimately lead to some bashing of our faith. When we all connected to the meeting, we noticed that her friend was a younger looking man, and he had a white shirt on (very key). Then, five seconds later he went on to show us his missionary tag. So we had 3 missionaries in the lesson. What a blessing. This new missionary was from Haiti, and serving in Jamaica! Technology is amazing. The spirit was definitely at this lesson, even though I still don't know whats really going on, I could still feel it, and then say the things I needed to say. The Lord works in mysterious ways, but I know that he's always in our side. Even if that means to freak us out before the lesson. God definitely has a sense of humor.

The other lesson that stood out to me was with our good friend Sylvia. Now if you remember her, she is the one who is always super busy, and I have only had one lesson with her the whole time I've been here. Well now I've had two lessons with her. To make things better this was the big Law of Chasity lesson. We have been preparing for this lesson for the whole time I've been here, and even before that. Overall it went really well, and we hope she can be baptized soon! I've learned that we are on the Lord's time, not ours; and we taught the lesson exactly when we needed to. We even had the privilege to have a member of the seventy and his wife join the lesson. It was only a little intimidating.

The new district is great! We are getting along quite well, and we have had two great district councils already! Sadly we are getting split up already because one sister is going home. Not for anything bad, but because she has been serving for 21 months. For anyone who doesn't know, sisters are only suppose to serve for 18 months... so she's done. Since she is from Australia, she couldn't get a flight home. Luckily, she was able to finally get a flight and she is going home tomorrow. She's such a great example, and her testimony is inspiring. We will all miss her. Not sure what's gonna happen to us now, might just be us and another set of elders (so only 4 people), which isn't ideal cause a normal district has at least 6-8 missionaries I would say, but it is what it is. We will make it fun.

I'm finally getting a haircut today thank goodness. It's been a long two months. Lets just hope they don't close in a week. I like when things are open. We also bought a blender, and I don't think the neighbors like when I use it in the morning.

In district council I taught "how we can teach the gospel simply." I learned that the gospel really is so simple, even so that a little child can learn the principals and be baptized be the age of 8. When we help others come unto Christ, it doesn't have to be some huge power point. When we teach with simplicity, we can build others faith in Christ one string at a time, so that eventually they have an unbreakable rope. "The gospel of Jesus Christ is beautifully simple, and simply beautiful."-Robert L. Simpson

I hope everyone has a great week, and make sure to stay warm! Love you all!

Love Elder May
