Volume 15: The Acadian
Bonjour mes amis, comment ça va?
This week a little bit of a short one, because Pday was on Wednesday last week. But, it's always nice to have a little bit of a shorter week, especially since things can get pretty busy. First I would like to update everybody on the restrictions here in Quebec. Starting yesterday things have started to open up! So now I can get a haircut finally, and go to stores other than Walmart. Walmart is nice and all but I'm glad to be able to go somewhere else. It's also nice to be able to buy things other than food. In fact we were so excited about these stores being open we decided to go to Staples and look at pens for 30 minutes. Let me tell you that was fun! I found a lot of good pens and even highers. I will definitely be using them everyday now so it was really time well spent and will probably be going back there soon. I never thought I would have so much fun in Staples. With these new rules lifted we can now attend church with the max of 10 people! We had the chance to go last week, and it was a lot better then being at home, even if there were only 10 people there... well that's like half the branch anyways. I also had the opportunity to bear my testimony in French which was terrifying. I was also asked to do it, so I had no excuse and I couldn't talk myself out of it like last time. But I like to tell myself that I would of done no matter what. Even though I know I probably would of found some way to not do it. So I am grateful that the spirit inspired the branch president to ask me to bear my testimony first... it really was all good in the end. It took a lot of talking to myself to get prepared, and let me teel you it helped.
The Acadian part relates to our dear friend Yvon, who happens to be just that. It makes sense cause I can't understand him even more than the other people. But he is trying to learn English to so he sometimes speaks English and it helps. So lately we have not heard from him, so I kinda forgot about him with everything else that had been happening. But a few days ago we got a text from him, and he wanted to have a prayer with us. So we set up a time to do it. When we called we got no answer, so we were like "dang hope that wasn't a setup" but we found our quick that he was just in the middle of a game on his phone, and didn't want to lose. We now have his home phone number so that never happens again. After the prayer he expressed that he wanted to watch church, and that he missed it. So we decided to go and help him download zoom. Long story short, we ended up giving him a Book of Mormon and even teaching him about it! We also found our he knew so much about the bible! That marked the day I did my first door contact, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Thank you for all your prayers!
This week's Missionary devotional was with Elder and Sister Gong. They talked a lot about how we cannot compare ourselves to others. I know from experience that when we do this, we really just end up feeling worse about ourselves. Instead, we need to do exactly as Elder Gong said "Recognize the difference of being perfect in societys eyes, and being perfect in God's eyes." When we worry about how God see us, and our own personal growth; life will be so much easier!
Hope you all had a good week, stay warm!
Elder May
