Volume 9: Juif Pêche
Bonjour les gens!
I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I sure did! Thank you all for the gifts, and all the Christmas messages! But before I get into that I have some fun stories to share with you all.
1) Story number one relates to the title of this email. For those who don't know "Juif Pêche" means Peach Jew in French. Now for the story: So ever since I found out my companion liked Starbucks, we made it our goal to go order some someday. Myself being oblivious I didn't realize the things I would have to say it's actually received my order. But I agreed to go anyways because it was something fun to do. When we got to Starbucks we sat in the car and studied up our order. Even though my order was one drink, and probably one sentence long; it took me 10 minutes to figure out what to say and how to say properly. To make things better, instead of saying peach juice I was saying Peach Jew and I had no idea what the difference was. Luckily my companion caught me before I went in, but that made me freak out even more because I didn't want to say peach Jew in front of everybody. In the end Im pretty sure I still said peach jew... but I did get what I wanted and that's all that matters.
2) This one isn't much of a story, it's more of progress. Yesterday we were in a rush and we didn't have the time to make supper. So we decided to get Subway. For anyone who loves Subway like I do, there is a certain way you want your sandwich. But that requires many more words in which I don't know how to say. We didn't have much time so we just went for it. Luckily the lady was super nice, and she was able to understand my very broken French. Even though I didn't get everything I wanted on it (which was my fault) it was basically what I wanted, and it tasted good.
3) Now this one's a random one. I got a random text from someone, and he ended up needing something. He then told me it was urgent so I was like ok what's the problem? He then went on to send me a picture of his bellybutton and ask me "what is this?" I died with laughter that's for sure I had no idea why he felt like he needed to do that. But c'est la vie right? He is now asking if I'm offended by it, so this will be fun.
On the other hand, Christmas this year was one to remember that a for sure! I am so grateful to have spent it here in Granby. I have really learned the true meaning of Christmas! Being away from family, and being devoted to the Lords work really make Christmas that much better! On Christmas Eve my companion and I were able to have a steak dinner! He made some great steaks! We then watched a Mission wide devotional, where we shared Christmas stories! On Christmas Day I had the opportunity to clean 3 of our churches with the members of our district. We had a blast! It felt so.good to be serving others like Jesus did, especially this Christmas season. We were then able to do a little gift exchange between the 6 of us. It was super fun! We also had another devotional that day where we shared our testimonies! It was such a powerful experience, and I learned so much from everyone! I wantedto share the testimony that I shared in the devotional!
"God loves all of us, and I have really come to know that. Before my mission, I was a nervous wreck, and it really prohibited me from doing many things. I had many doubts, especially regarding my ability to be a missionary. As I've been here, those feelings of doubt, and nervousness have gone down drastically. Though they are not gone completely, I know God has helped me through these times. We need to remember that it's because he loves, and knows each one of us individually, that he can help us through these tough times."
I love all of you and I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, and I hope you all have a Happy New Year!
Love Elder May
PS. Apparently we have a new strain of Covid here in Quebec... thanks so someone in the UK that came over here I guess. So now things are getting stricter with what we can get, and do. Yay for covid. On the other hand, a spot miraculously opened up for Forsyth, and I to attend the Granby zoo. It was booked for the next 2 weeks! The Lord is always looking out for us even in these times! When we look at the good each day we will be happier!
PPS. Elder Forsyth and I made a music video for the Christmas devotional. I will try and get it to you guys somehow!
PPPS. This week at church a random guy just came in, and now he wants to be taught! Some lady gave him our church address! God is good!
