Volume 3: My First French Lesson
Salut tout le monde, ça va?!
So from the title of this email I bet you can all assume what I’m going to be talking about. My French TRC. For those who don’t know, TRC stands for Teaching Resource Centre. It’s basically teaching practice with random people over zoom. Just from the sound of that, doing this is English was freaking me out. You don’t even want to know what was going through my mind for the French TRC. Let’s just say there was a lot of freaking out (all internally tho) but it’s fine. In the end, my English ones have been going great, and giving me lots of confidence in teaching! Good thing I’m not teaching in English right? The reason why I’m bringing all this up is because I had my first French TRC yesterday, after two and half weeks in the MTC. Let’s just say I will probably always remember it. The lady we taught had a really sweet accent, sadly it made it harder to understand, especially for me. In the end, I probably only understood a quarter of what was said. Which seems fine but it wasn’t. I am so lucky to have my companion, he is definitely Batman, and I’m definitely like Robin. Let’s just say he took the lead on this one, and I will be forever grateful for that. Elder Depew has many great qualities, and that is definitely one of them! Now, despite all that I did learn some things: 1. Do not write your exact lesson down and have it right in front of you, because the lesson will change, even if you think it won’t. I got to thank Sœur Rutter for that one, she was right. 2. Everyone told me French people talk really really fast, and now I know that really is true... so at least I know what to expect for the future. 3. (Coming back to the first point) I can’t worry about having an exact lesson plan, because that’s not taught by the spirit. Instead I need to prepare, then go into the lesson knowing that things will change. Even though that is so scary, I know it’s the right thing to do. When we teach by the spirit, we can be directed to teach based on the person's needs. This being way more relevant than if we were to teach the lesson point by point, because we need to focus on what the person needs, not the lesson.
Now besides all that lesson talk, I had a great third week! My district is getting closer together by the day, and our teachers are amazing! One of my favourite parts of the week would probably be our district activities! We decided as a district to meet together three times a week, just to talk about life and stuff, it’s the best. Our conversations go from what our hobbies were before the mission, to what sports we played in high school. We even got into the deep stuff... relationships. We really are a tight group! It’s like we have known each other forever, and I hope I get the opportunity to see them all!
Finally, I would like to address President Nelson’s message! It was so good, and exactly what we needed at this time! He talked about the importance of gratitude, and how we really need to take the time to ponder what we are grateful for! I know that if we do this we will be happier each day! I hope all of you take the opportunity to think about what you are grateful for each day!
Jusqu'à la semaine prochaine!
Love Elder May
